Zinc Table

If we get this new place, for the first time in many years we will have a house with private outdoor space. Hallelujah! It's not huge a huge garden, but it just enough room for the kids to run around and for an outdoor dining/bbq area.<br /><br />It's taking just about every ounce of self control I have to not buy <a href="http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Zinc_Dining_Table/220/" target="_blank">this zinc table</a> for the deck. I really love it.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/l08934.jpg" /></div><br />There are going to be so many big purchases for the move, I'll have to do some prioritizing. So I guess we'll hold out for a little while longer (and hope that it goes on sale in the meantime?). I am going to check out some vintage Bertoia chairs from craigslist tomorrow though. Wouldn't these make a pretty amazing pair with the zinc table? If the finish is bad, there might be some spray paint action up in here.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/IMG_2623.jpg" /></div><br />And while we're at it I'd like a few strands of <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/vintage-string-lights/outdoor-lighting/outdoor-string-lights/235838?listIndex=0" target="_blank">these classic string lights</a>. These more modern string <a href="http://www.westelm.com/products/industrial-string-lights-w707/?pkey=coutdoor-lighting-candles" target="_blank">lights</a> are cool too.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ScreenShot2012-05-09at123134AM.png" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Have you seen any great outdoor furniture or accessories this year? I'm so excited about having a yard again, I can hardly stand it.</div>

Painting a mirror with chalkboard paint

I have always hated the gold painted finish on this old mirror I got at Brimfield years ago for about $60. I've been meaning to gold leaf it for a long time, but just haven't had the chance to get around to it. Then this weekend I was just so over the gold. It is such a blah color for my entry with the olive leather <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/08/new-settee.html" target="_blank">settee</a> and the <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/01/jennys-loft-entry-progress.html" target="_blank">beige leopard rug</a>. The space needed some contrast, so on a whim I decided to paint the mirror black.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/IMG_5002.jpg" /></div><br />While I was looking for the quart of black Benjamin Moore Advance, I saw the chalkboard paint and thought the ultra flat finish could be cool looking, sort of a little like this old <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shopsale-decorative/860062.jsp" target="_blank">Anthropologie iron mirror</a>?<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ScreenShot2012-05-06at122425PM.png" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/IMG_5005.jpg" /></div><br />I've said this a million times, but painting mirrors is the easiest project. Just slap on two or three coats, let it dry and then clean up the mirror with a wet rag. The dried paint wipes right off the glass. If you need a little extra help with the edges, a razor works great.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/IMG_5006.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/IMG_5013.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div style="text-align: left;">The color is off in these photos and the black is not quite as washed out. I think I really like it in person though.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/6DSC_0027.jpg" /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/DSC_0047.jpg" /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I need to touch up some places (chalkboard paint doesn't cover very well, not surprisingly!).</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/6DSC_0032.jpg" /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/66DSC_0018.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I think the matte black is a cool look, especially for my entry. If I want the mirror gold again though when we move, it would be easy to leaf right over the black. The color contrast would be great actually, so no harm done.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/DSC_0045-1.jpg" /></div>

Host and High Chairs

<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">Hi! I hope you had a great weekend! We played catch up after a crazy week. So many changes coming our way!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/15DSC_0015.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />I've already mentioned this one, but one of the big changes is a move later this summer! Exciting! So obviously it doesn't make sense to buy anything more for the loft. In our new place, the dining room isn't suited for a long table like this one, so I decided to let go of the <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/04/upholstering-backs-of-vintage-chairs.html" target="_blank">host chair idea</a>. We pulled the <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/03/mint-wool-chairs-in-action.html" target="_blank">minty Italian chairs</a> up to the table when I bought the little <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/04/new-bergere-chairs.html" target="_blank">bergeres</a> a couple weeks ago (those are now flanking the red console) I love the way they look against the <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/02/chinese-wallpaper-in-acrylic-frames.html" target="_blank">chinese wallpaper</a>!</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/16DSC_0007.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div style="text-align: left;">A couple of people have emailed me about our high chair. I bought our <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D12RLK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=littgreenote-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001D12RLK">Stokke Tripp Trapp chair</a> on Craigslist for $75 right after we moved to the city. It's a really great little chair for older babies (we use a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007ORN7M/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=littgreenote-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0007ORN7M">Bumbo</a> for the first six months or so), toddlers and even young kids. I love the shape and color and it's great for us to have Evie sitting at the table with us rather than dealing with a huge big high chair situation.</div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/6DSC_0021.jpg" /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">Do you have a high chair you love? </div></div>

SOS: Ballad Dining Chairs

Help! Do any of you have the <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/louis-xvi-square-back-side-chair/chairs/dining-chairs/195189?listIndex=21" target="_blank">straight-back Louis</a> or the <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/leonardo-leather-chair/219691?listIndex=0" target="_blank">Leonardo chairs</a> from Ballard? I'd love to hear your opinion on the comfort level. One of my clients likes the style of the Leonardo a lot and the dimensions are perfect, but the chairs need to be really comfortable (like long dinner parties comfortable). I'd love any input you have to offer! I wouldn't ask normally, but we've been stuck on the chair situation for a while and could use some info. Please and thank you!<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ballardleopardo.jpg" /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">The plan is to pair four of these with a marble-topped <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Cimg%20src=%22http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ScreenShot2012-05-02at123344AM.png%22%3E" target="_blank">Saarinen style table</a> for her breakfast nook.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="640" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ScreenShot2012-05-02at123344AM.png" width="552" /></div></div><br /><i>PS Thanks for all the emails on the <a href="http://www.hsn.com/home-decor/nate-berkus-studio-sofa_p-4536486_xp.aspx" target="_blank">Nate Berkus settee</a>. Six Random Thoughts

I got back late last night from a whirlwind trip to Chicago. My head is still spinning a little from the past couple of very busy weeks, but here are six things I'm enjoying lately:<br /><br />1) Julie from <a href="http://shelterinteriordesign.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Shelter</a> Interior Design was also in Chicago yesterday and I was so glad to finally meet her. She is so cool and, truly, her blog is an absolute feast for the eyes! These are some photos of her house in Boston. She's got skills - girlfriend can dream up a gorgeous space in about five minutes flat (trust me, I saw her do it yesterday!).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/JulieRichardWebDetails-41.jpg" /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/JulieRichardWebDetails-7.jpg" /></div><br />2) I think pale blue and rust orange might be my favorite color combo of the past couple months. Maybe that's why I've been wearing <a href="http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/dv-by-dolce-vita-jamison-boot/3223946" target="_blank">these boots</a> almost non-stop all spring. They are not super high, so they're perfect for running around the city all day. Every single time I wear them someone stops to ask me where they're from, which is always fun, right ladies?<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ScreenShot2012-05-01at120342AM.png" /></div><br />3) One of my old clients is moving apartments and doesn't have room any more for this adorable pale aqua settee we bought together last summer. It's in almost perfect condition and she's selling it for a fraction of what she paid. She's on the Upper East side and would need you to pick it up yourself. <a href="mailto:jenny@jennykomenda.com" target="_blank">Email me</a> for more details.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="400" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/367222.jpg" width="400" /></div><br />4) <a href="http://simplygrove.com/" target="_blank">Kirsten</a> blogged about these <a href="http://www.westelm.com/products/iris-speckled-planter-black-c924/?pkey=coutdoor-indoor-planters" target="_blank">West Elm planters</a> last week and I haven't been able to get them out of my mind. Aren't they gorgeous (and they're on sale!)? So sleek! I'm imagining a super feminine flowering plant in these, or maybe round two of <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/06/calamondin-indoor-orange-trees.html" target="_blank">my citrus trees</a> (which sadly died pretty quickly in our loft - not nearly enough light in here I'm guessing?)<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/ScreenShot2012-04-30at110058PM.png" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/WESTELMimg4o-520x520.jpg" /></div><br />5) This white herringbone pattern quilt from Target, which is only available in stores, is a really great buy. It looks so pretty tucked in tight on a bed, with a colorful duvet folded at the foot (my forever-favorite look for bedding).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/IMG_0231.jpg" /></div><br />6) Last Saturday <a href="http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Joanna</a> hosted a Mother's Day brunch at Karen Mordechai's stunning loft in Williamsburg. Karen runs <a href="http://sunday-suppers.com/classes/" target="_blank">Sunday Suppers</a> which is a beautiful cooking+dining class that I'm <i>dying </i>to take (hopefully sometime this summer). The food on Saturday was phenomenal, and the company, even better! I love these creative, beautiful, super inspiring women.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/6976846594_bb08fba0b4_o.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>photo swiped from my new across-the-street neighbor, <a href="http://fromme-toyou.tumblr.com/post/22130462860/brooklyn-brunch" target="_blank">Jamie Beck</a>. </i><br /><i>See here how I'm holding <a href="http://marvelouskiddo.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Leigh's</a> new little peanut? That was such a treat. But seriously, want to know what's not a helpful thing to do when you're fighting baby fever? Holding adorable newborns. So </i>not<i> helpful.</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/album%202/d1ff7a18914011e1a92a1231381b6f02_7.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>from my Instagram (follow me at jennykomenda)</i></div>
