Book Club: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Auction Book

A couple years ago I found a pretty beat up copy of the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E2ZNLU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000E2ZNLU&linkCode=as2&tag=littgreenote-20">Sotheby's Auction catalogue from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' estate</a> at the flea market.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo 4DSC_0065.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/4DSC_0065.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><center></center><br />I wouldn't say that I'm more interested in Jackie than the next person (other than her work with Sister Parish on the White House reno - I have another vintage book on that topic and it's <i>fascinating</i>. I'll be sure to share later.). But this catalogue is really something else. It's almost like reading a blog by Jackie. Most of the items for sale included photos of her wearing or using the item and usually a short, interesting personal story about the piece.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo DSC_0069.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/DSC_0069.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><br />It's not the same thing at all, obviously, but it made me glad for a second that I've kept going with this little blog here for my family's sake. I'm no good at keeping a personal journal, but maybe my kids will be interested in reading these posts when they're older. And in the off-chance that I've kept any of my furniture/clothes/jewelry that long, that they would have a little provenance and family history that make my trinkets a little more personal and meaningful. (And now I'm thinking it's time to curb a lot of the F21/H&M purchases. Cost-per-wear, baby. DIY Modern Brass Chandelier

Hook each wire in place around the base of each screw and tighten. HGTV Home Fabrics at Joanns

It seems rare to find on-trend and exciting fabric patterns at regular fabric stores like Joanns. Trellis patterns don't really do it for me any more, but I do like sort of more unique geometric patterns a lot. This one from the HGTV Home fabric line at Joann's stopped me in my tracks. The colors are so great and the pattern looks so high-end. Hello From AZ

Michael and I both had business trips scheduled in Arizona this month so we decided to move things around and travel together at the same time. We brought Evie along with us which declared this trip decidedly unromantic, but 100% more cute. She charmed just about every person on our flight last night, which was no easy feat since our flight was delayed twice followed by an hour of sitting on the tarmac before take off. I'm excited to give her some extra attention over the next few days. So far she's loving room service and sleeping in a Queen bed all by herself. :)<br /><br />One of the things I'm doing while we're out here is meeting with a long-time client who has this exact vintage burlwood dining table. I'm unbelievably jealous of it. Thinking About Kitchen Sinks

I've been making lists of projects I'd like to finish this year at the brownstone and I think it's time to replace the counters <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-kitchen-pendants-and-circa-goodman.html" target="_blank">in our small kitchen</a> and change out the sink.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo pendantsLGN.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/pendantsLGN.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><br />I have some research to do here still, but I am completely intrigued by <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99822037/" target="_blank">this only $300 IKEA almost farmhouse style apron sink</a>.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_1545.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/IMG_1545.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><br />Most of these apron style sinks are under mount basins (which I really like for counter cleaning purposes). Double-Width Cotton Duck

I need to put up curtains in <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2013/04/new-living-room-rug.html" target="_blank">our living room</a> in the worst way. That wall just feels so unfinished. I'm planning on doing a <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2013/02/diy-roman-shades-from-mini-blinds.html" target="_blank">silk roman shade</a> (color TBD - probably a couple of shades deeper than the wall color?), layered under a pair of curtain panels that are wide enough to be fully functioning.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo 2DSC_0349.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/2DSC_0349.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>I don't mind sewing my own curtains at all (<a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2009/07/on-sewing-pinch-pleated-curtains.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2010/09/joannas-living-room-part-1.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2009/10/bright-happy-dining-room.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2010/03/my-parents-new-bedroom.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-to-sew-pinch-pleats-in-ready-made.html" target="_blank">here</a>), but I'm not the hugest fan of piecing together the widths of fabric. Not because my machine can't handle it (because <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/03/best-inexpensive-and-heavy-duty-sewing.html" target="_blank">the beast</a> can handle almost any job I put in front of it!), it's just all that fabric gets awkward and cumbersome, especially when dealing with panels long enough for twelve foot ceilings. And while I like using <a href="http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/07/making-curtains-out-of-drop-cloths.html" target="_blank">painter's drop cloths</a> for some jobs, but I've been noticing with my last purchase or two that the canvas used in the drop cloths is not usually one continuous width. And usually the widths are pieced together sloppily, and so are the hems often.<br /><br />So, when I stumbled across these HUGE bolts of canvas, linen and cotton duck at Blicks, I was in heaven.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_2297.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/IMG_2297.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">84 continuous inches of thick, uniform, heavy weight cotton duck means no piecing together widths of fabric here. And I love the natural ivory color. Not too oatmealy like the drop cloths can sometimes be.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_2295.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/IMG_2295.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The price for the the cotton duck was only about $10.50 a yard (and that's in NYC, so it's probably cheaper in other areas).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt=" photo IMG_2292.jpg" border="0" src="http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd246/jkomenda/Album4/IMG_2292.jpg" style="text-align: start;" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I would only need about 8 yards total of this extra wide fabric to do my double-width panels. Less than $100 for all that fabric is a really great price. I've been dreaming of all the different things I could do with the cotton duck (since it's literally a blank canvas). I could dye it, but I was thinking of leaving the background the ivory color and then using bleach to make a more subtle pattern.
